What is a co-branded card or credit card?
A co-branded card is a credit card that is issued by a licensed bank in partnership with a nonfinancial service provider or retail merchant. The card is designed to reflect the provider’s corporate identity. The logos of the bank (e.g. Wirecard) and the merchant (e.g. an airline, hotel chain or supermarket chain) also usually both appear on the card. The intention behind co-branded cards is to boost customers’ loyalty to both brands.
In addition to traditional card functions, like making purchases or withdrawing cash, co-branded cards usually also provide other benefits such as bonus points, discounts, or other value-added-services.
