A merchant concludes a credit card acceptance agreement with an acquirer. This means that the merchant is obliged to accept online payments with credit cards such as Visa or Mastercard. The merchant can be an individual, such as an online shop operator, or a company.
Each contract defines a transaction between the merchant and acquirer and is designated by a unique combination of digits called a merchant ID. It authorizes the merchant to accept credit card payments.
When questions about transactions arise, merchants should contact their payment service provider and refer to this unique contract number. It enables payments to be processed using the desired payment method, which in this case is by credit card.
