Electric mobility is no longer a distant vision. Today, e-vehicles are already boosting the quality of life in city centers and rural areas. They are environmentally friendly, make less noise than other means of transportation, and offer users a completely new level of convenience.
Whatever your destination, the right electric vehicle is ready and waiting: an e-scooter for the last mile, for example, from the subway station to your front door; an e-bike for trips around and about; and an e-car for long distances. E-mopeds and electric motorbikes are also available on the market.
It’s easy to book an e-scooter. You download the app, register, and select a payment method—usually a credit card or an e-wallet such as ApplePay or PayPal. A map in the app shows where you will find e-scooters nearby. With a click on your preferred scooter, you can view its battery level or range, how far away it is located, and the cost. Once you reach your chosen two-wheeler and decide to hire it, you scan its QR code with your smartphone. Payment is automatic when you finish your trip and is calculated based on the journey time.
E-scooter sharing is currently exploiting the full potential of digitalization. Everything is “mobile only.” Analog processes are neither possible nor necessary Instead, once you have completed the one-time registration, the focus is on getting from A to B easily and comfortably. As a result, payment is quick and simple. That’s why it’s all the more important for scooter providers to select an experienced partner—such as Wirecard—to ensure that mobile payment in the app is reliable and secure.
E-scooters are yet more proof that digitalization can drive electric mobility forward (read more in our white paper: “Seamless Payment at Charging Stations:
Digitalization in Electric Mobility”). Evidence that e-mobility is on the right track can be found in the record number of electric cars on the roads today. Some 5.6 million are now licensed worldwide, most of them in China. By way of comparison: Five years ago, the figure was 420,000 (source: Statista).
