What is the Address Verification Service?
The Address Verification Service (AVS) is a checking method used by the Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit card organizations. It helps prevent fraud in online commerce as well as card-not-present and MOTO transactions.
The address data (invoicing address) entered by a customer is checked against the data stored by the credit card organization. AVS protects customers from credit card misuse, while reducing the risk of chargebacks for merchants.
