KLM – Advanced acquiring solutions and new payment partner in India

The Challenge

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the biggest airline in The Netherlands and together with Air France is Europe’s leading airline group. Facing the future, KLM needed advanced omnichannel acquiring solutions: for its online business, its travel agents sales as well as for mail and telephone orders.

As an international airline serving 149 destinations worldwide, including Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, KLM was also searching for a specialist partner in payment processing in India with its strict financial regulations.

The Solution

In order to support KLM, Wirecard implemented the entire payment and acquiring processes for its website in many European countries and beyond – for example in Germany, Belgium, United Arab Emirates and Singapore. This allows KLM customers to pay their tickets via credit card such as Visa, Mastercard and JCB in the respective countries.

In addition, in order to meet KLM’s requirements in India, Wirecard developed a gateway service to a local bank so that the airline can accept and transact payments in this emerging market.

The Result

After three years of collaboration with Wirecard, KLM is still satisfied with Wirecards omnichannel acquiring services and is happy to rely on Wirecard as a specialist gateway partner to India and so better serve the customers in this strongly regulated market. In return, Wirecard is pleased to be able to offer its services in India through a local partnering bank.
