Head of Product Card & Account Management

Sreelekha S.

Sreelekha, how did you come to work at Wirecard?
I moved to Munich in 2005, shortly after I finished my degree. I am Indian, but was born and raised in Dubai, where my whole family still lives. As I couldn't speak a word of German, the first thing I did was sign up to a German language course. When I saw that Wirecard was offering internships, I immediately applied and completed a placement as a software developer. Later, another company offered me a job, but I decided to stay with Wirecard.

Why did you decide to stay at Wirecard?
Above all, it was the start-up feeling, the unlimited energy. In 2005, Wirecard was a small technology team. Development and quality assurance were together in one large room and the desks were all together. As I was at the start of my career, this gave me the incredible opportunity to be involved in shaping things from the start.

It is so exciting here because Wirecard grows from year to year. I love that vibrancy!

How would you describe the culture at Wirecard?
Dynamic really hits the nail on the head. It is so exciting here because Wirecard grows from year to year. I love this dynamism at Wirecard! You never know what will happen next week. While working at Wirecard, I have never been bored for even a single day because I constantly face new challenges. Not everyone is able to work in such a dynamic environment. You have to really like that sort of atmosphere. And if you do, it is brilliant!

How has your career progressed in the company so far?

As I said, I started as an intern. I was then employed as a junior software programmer and became a software developer two years later. After five years, I took a year off to have my first child. During this time, Wirecard underwent restructuring and I was offered a position as a business analyst. Today, I am head of the department, specifically Head of Product Line Card & Account Management. In this role I have to speak a lot of German because I hold sales talks with customers. Wirecard supports such career progression in every respect. In my case, with language courses.

What has been your defining experience here at Wirecard?
The day I assumed responsibility for my department. It was the team in which I had myself been an intern. To supervise this team was a very new responsibility for me. Especially in light of the fact that I have a child, so need to manage both my personal life and a growing team to the best of my ability. But I love such challenges! And Wirecard helps me to achieve a good work-life balance.
